What is a Hexapod?
Typically, in robotics, a hexapod refers to a motion control system that has six legs and 3 degrees of freedom both linearly and axially.
Project History
In May of 2023 we set out to design a Hexapod which would primarily be 3D printed and maintain a relatively low cost to build. This OpenSource Hexapod has been designed to serve as a moving platform for you to tinker with and build on top of! We planned for this hexapod to be controlled with a wireless controller, have multiple options for maneuverability, and [stretch goal] utilize machine learning to track and follow objects.
So far this project has seen three major design iterations, aptly named Hex1, Hex2, and Hex3. We had an amazing time sharing our Hex2 design at OpenSauce 2025, and we set out to create a far more capable Hexapod for Hex3!
